We Bop!

This new jazz Cd by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra got my juices flowing! I love the cover, bringing together all of my favorite colors. Here are some details:

Introducing WeBop: A Family Jazz Party, a brand new CD that brings the best of our WeBop classes home to families everywhere. It’s music for little people and the big people who love them to enjoy together—playing, dancing, singing, drumming, and jamming out with whatever you’ve got. 

Led by drummer and dad Matt Wilson, the CD features an all-star, intergenerational band that includes Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra members Marcus Printup and Vincent Gardner, singer and guitarist Doug Wamble, and the legendary percussionist and NEA Jazz Master, Candido Camero playing alongside some very talented kids.

Book Review: The Beautiful Fall: Lagerfeld, Saint Laurent, and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris

My friend Serge Jean lent me this book a few months ago given that my next novel will take place in the world of Paris fashion. It took me some time to get to it, but once I started reading, I couldn't stop.  It reads like a mix of biography and dishy tell all and takes you deep into the glorified and narcissistic worlds of Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970s.

Beautifully written, extraordinarily researched ( with over 500 interviews), you are transported back to the lavish excesses of the 70s at every turn of the page. Although the book concentrates on fashion as lived by the rival camps of Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, its scope is much broader. Throughout a narrative that reads as compellingly as fiction, the author analyzes the socio-cultural events that shaped the Paris fashion world.

Despite the superficial nature of the worlds they lived in and their countless personal foibles, that included sex, drugs and a gluttonous appetite for power, you can't help but become attached to these supremely talented characters.

This book would make a wonderful gift for anyone interested in fashion, Paris or history.

Pale loveliness

Loving all the pale pinks, winter whites and beige this season. Just found a white fuzzy fur jacket with embedded scarf on sale.  Can't wait to wear it and share it!

La mechante de Paris

I am in awe of all the young women who have fantastic fashion blogs and parade in front of the camera in fabulous outfits. There are more out there than I realized. I just discovered Le blog de la mechante from France and I find Eleonore Bridge just lovely and hope that you do too...Her vintage finds are wonderful.
